Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a part of a complete medical system known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Acupuncture focuses on correcting imbalances of energy in the body. From its inception in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture has been used traditionally to prevent, diagnose and treat health conditions, as well as to improve general health.

Acupuncture balances the flow of energy, known as chi or qi, that flows through pathways in your body. These pathways are called channels or meridians and are accessible at different locations on the body. Acupuncturists rebalance your energy flow by inserting extremely fine needles through the skin into these points. Various combinations are used, allowing your body's natural healing mechanisms to take over.

Acupuncturists ask many questions during an initial intake, along with pulse and tongue diagnosis, to detect imbalances and provide a holistic healing approach. The points are chosen on the basis of your constitution and symptoms. Each session is highly customized for you and your specific health concern.

Acute symptoms may require only two to four treatments; whereas for chronic cases, it is common to have as many as 12 or more treatments, usually over a course of eight to 10 weeks.

Regular monthly or even seasonal visits may be suggested as preventive measures to decrease stress, improve energy or boost immunity.
